Giblin, Charles H., "Analecta Biblica" 107, 1985, pp. X-126 This monograph attempts to answer questions posed by the Third Gospel’s remarkable concern with the destruction of Jerusalem. It takes seriously the historical preface by which Luke types both his presentation of the Gospel and his readership, thus indicating the way in which he expects his work to be read. The fate of Jerusalem, attributable to the people of the city at the time of the Lord’s visitation and to injustice of their rules, becomes a case in point regarding God’s coming judgment upon the nation, the inhabited world, and is intended to prompt the reader to salutary, practical reflection. Charles Homer Giblin, S.J., currently Professor of New Testament Studies at Fordham University, New York City, has also served as Catholic Biblical Association Visiting Professor both at the École biblique et archèologique Française, Jerusalem, and at Pontifical Biblical Insitute, Rome. He received the doctorate in Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute, 1967. His other published works are In Hope of God’s Glory. Pauline Theological Perspectives (1970) and articles concerning Paul, Luke, Matthew, John. |
