Nyeme Tese déclarait:” C’est à partir de son héritage religieux que l’africain percoit l’interpellation divine que lui apporte la parole de Dieu. Cette constatation nous semble fondamentale…Elle nous engage à l’étude de l’ensemble des religions africaines”. Toute l’assistance en fut pleinement d’accord. Dès 1965, la Déclaration de Vatican II sur les religions non chrétiennes avaint relevé une donnée qui fournit un des themes centraux de notre etude: Depuis les temples les plus anciens, on trouve dans les différents peoples une certaine sensibilité à une force cache, présente au rythme des choses et des événements de la vie; bien plus, on décèle en certains cas la reconnaissance d’une divinité supreme, voire d’un Père (n.2). Ces assertions des africains et du Concile, le present auvrage voudrait les corroborer pour sa modeste part en s’attachant à un domaine limité mais important: celui de l’attitude à l’égard d’un Etre Suprême. An interest in this problem at the early period of Western Christianity in India led the author to study the writings of Roberto de Nobili (1577-1656). De Nobili was the first European to understand the Hindu Society from its own scriptures and traditions. One of the central concepts that sums up the life of the Hindus is that of dharma. A study of the Nobili’s method of adoption of certain customs and synbols of the Hindus without a study of how far de Nobili understood some of the central concepts of Hinduism is incomplete. This work in Dharma, Hindu and Christian, according to Roberto De Nobili is the first study in this line. It centres around the concept of dharma, but it also evaluates the related socio-ehico-religious concepts of Hinduism. Such a study is broader in scope than that of the Hindu caste dharma. It tries to show that this first Christian encounter with Hinduism by de Nobili is quite profound, despite the limitations of the apologetic theology with which de Nobili worked in the presentation of Christianity.

Tete Peter “Documenta Missionalia” 18 1984, pp. XIX - 191 After Father Constant Lievens, John Baptist Hoffmann (1857-1928) was one of the most prominent Jesuit missionaries in the Mission of Chota Nagpur, in North India, from 1893 to 1915. This book has been undertaken in order to present as complete a picture as possible and to highlight the activities of Father Hoffmann. He believed that Catholic missionary work in Chota Nagpur had to go hand in hand with a struggle for social justice and for the uplift of the working people, their families and communities. His work also shows the validity of the social teaching of the Chirch for missionaries as restated by Vatican Council II. The whole work can be divided into four main parts. The first deals with the socio-political, religious and economic conditions of Chota Nagpuur. The second treats of the active missionary work of Hoffmann in the Munda country at Sarwada.

Dentoni Francesco “Documenta Missionalia” 17 1982, pp. IV - 135 Yanagita Kunio (1875 – 1962) è il padre della moderna scienza giapponese del folklore; ma il significato della sua opera va molto oltre la pur enciclopedica raccolta, da lui intrapresa, di tutti gli aspetti della vita giapponese tradizionale. Con alle spalle una famiglia ispirata ai valori nativi, un esordio da letterato, una carriera da burocrate, un’esperienza da giornalista si dedicò infine alla disciplina da lui fondata, impostata sulle scienze folkloriste occidentali ma intesa come risposta concreta al problema della rifondazione sociale e culturale del Giappone, della quale nei suoi anni si avvertiva forte l’esigenza. Nelle usanze, nei dialetti, nelle credenze, nelle tradizioni della gente comune egli individuò l’originaria identità culturale del Giappone e la offrì come punto di riferimento nelle inevitabili trasformazioni attraverso le quali si doveva passare. Il suo messaggio ha conquistato ancor più significato nel dopo guerra diventando egli stesso l’intellettuale più noto e letto nel Giappone odierno.

Congregazione “de Seminariis et Universitatibus” in data 9 agosto 1932 erigeva in Facoltà la cattedra di Missiologia che il P. Monnens teneva nella Facoltà di Teologia della Gregoriana dal 1929. La nuova facoltà, la prima del genere eretta nella Chiesa, nasceva in un contesto storico di grande slancio nel mondo cattolico per l’evangelizzazione dei popoli non cristiani. The exact ides of Hinduism is hard to define since the beliefs and practices of the Hindus differ greatly from one period of history to another, and within a given period, from one region to another, and within a given region, from one class of society to another. In its traditional form the chief distinguishing features of its development are Vedism, Brāhmanism, classical Hinduism, Sectarian Hinduism, Medieval Hinduism, Modern Hinduism and Contemporary Hinduism. These developments should not be considered as water-tight compartments, for they merge into one another. G.W.F. Hegel’s concept of indian philosophy

Viyagappa Ignatius “Documenta Missionalia” 14 1980, pp. IV - 295 The subtitle of this dissertation “Brahman, the pure unity of thought within itself”, which epitomizes Hegel’s view of Indian philosophy and religion, is a phrase borrowed verbatim from Hegel’s The Encyclopaedia of Philosophical Sciences in Outline. The very fact that he discusses Indian thought in his Encyclopaedia draws one’s attention. For he himself considered this work one “thoroughly thought out for years and worked out with all earnestness for the subject matter and scientific requirement. This work presents to us his philosophical system in its entire outline. In order to work out that outline, he spent half of his life time. Indeed without exaggeration, “in its specific form, it presents us with Hegel’s final and the highest point of view, namely, the system of philosophy. The context in which Hegel discusses Indian thought in the Encyclopaedia, is another important factor which attracts our attention. For the discussion comes in the final section of the book focusing on “philosophy”, which means for Hegel “the unity of art and religion” and “the absolute form” of the absolute spirit (Ency., 573).

Le centenaire de la fondation de la mission approchait et il nous semblait que le temps était venu de tenter une appréciation du travail accompli. Malgré tout l’intérêt qu’ils manifestèrent pour le projet, ils jugèrent que les circostances ne le permettaient pas. Dix-sept années de travail missionarie au Lesotho, dont quinze dans les montagnes, devaient se passer avant que le projet ne reprenne vie. La nascita di Propaganda non è dovuta ad una decisione del Papa, ma di uomini che si fanno portatori e maturano l’idea che il pontefice recuperi il ruolo di guida dell’evangelizzazione dei popoli, della necessità di istituire alle sue dirette dipendenze gli organi capaci di realizzarla e dirigerla e si fanno promotori di tentativi ed esperimenti diversi.

Listening to the theios logos appears as the first vocation of the theologian when he enters into contact with other religions. Sometimes, the theology of non-Christian religions seems to be mainly preoccupied with the task of pronouncing judgments on the other religions. The interreligious dialogue thus becomes an exchange of man-made propositions. We believe that it is only from an effort to understand each other’s listening to a divine word that a dialogue can start. Our study is made with the desire to serve the theological reflexion on non-Christian religions and thereby to contribute to the dialogue of faith. The pluri-religious world has always been a datum for reflexion for the Christian Community. Abriό la primera etapa del plan, un trabajo sobre la Preevangelizaciόn; luego siguiό un estudio más detenido sobre el Catecumenado, y hoy recogemos al neόfito después de su pertenencia plena a la Iglesia, para analizar cόmo se realizaba su vida postbautismal dentro de la comunidad. Vida orientada hacia la liturgia y alimentada de ella. Los limites impuestos a nuestra investigaciόn, y las normas metodolόgicas permanecen las mismas de las obras precedents: una atenciόn especial a las Fuentes contemporáneas manuscriptas, sin salirnos del siglo XVI. No queremos entrar en la época de las persecuciones que presenta caracteristicas muy distintas. Este echo nos obliga a circunscribirnos a la actividad de los gesuita. El arribo de otros religiosos ocurre a finales de s. XVI y su trabajo en la misiόn coincide con la época martirial. Tabieén la historia civil del Japόn sufriό en el 1600 con la batalla de Sekigahara un cambio radical: el poder disperso de un Japόn feudal se unifica y pasa a manos de la familia Tokugawa.

Un classico della spiritualità musulmana

Anche se vi abbiamo messo in opera tutto quanto abbiamo appreso faticosamente di quel dominio. Il primo lavoro è stato tradurre integralmente il testo arabo Mungid basandoci su due edizioni. Siamo convinti che una religione non vada studiata soltanto nei suoi testi sacri, ma va osservata negli individui che la professano tant’è che l’Islam rimane un’astrazione se non si passa a studiare direttamente i Musulmani. Questo libro non è una difesa del Cristianesimo nei riguardi dell’Islam, ma abbiamo voluto conoscere da vicino un’opera breve ma importante del più famoso teologo musulmano.

Lόpez Gay Jesús “Documenta Missionalia” 2 1966, pp. 252 En el campo historico, reducismo la tesis al siglo XVI, abarcandolos cincuenta primeros aňos de la mision de los Jesuitas. No entramos en la época de los martirios, que comienza formalmente en 1597, y ocupa la primera mitad del s. XVII. Entonces y se presenta con caracteristicas especiales. Si usamos textos de esta epoca, es solo porque reflejan ideas antiguas. Con esta época martirial, coiciden los primeros tanteos apostòlicos de otras Ordenes Religiosas, como Franciscanos y Dominicos; muchos de ellos merecerian ciertamiente un trabajo especial, cae ya fuera de los limites de nuestro estudio. En el aspecto pastoral, limitamos nuestro tema al estadio del catecumenato, con sus implicaciones más profundas como los carismas y la conversiόn. En toda actividad visiona, aparece clara una division de varios estadios: uno preliminar, en el que los oyentes son infieles, ajenos a toda idea cristiana; aun no se les presenta el misterio de Cristo, sino una apologética positiva que los vaya preparando. Se pretende suscitar el problema religioso, y lograr que el infiel se interese y pase adelante.

Contamos ya con varias edizione de documentos de la Santa Sede y la Sagrada Congregaciόn de Propaganda Fide, sobre los problemas morales en tierras de misiones. Y sin conocer en concreto cόmo nacieron y se plantearon esos problemas mirales, el ambiente en que se desenvolvieron, las caracteristicas con que se presentaban, los documentos oficiales pierden su verdadera perspective y aun es dificil valorarlos exactamente. Se impone el estudio historico de las misiones, intentando reconstruir fielmente toda la problematica que se formò al primer contacto del Cristianesimo con las culturas paganas. Las fuentes contemporáneas inedita, como cartas, relaciones son numerosas. En estos últimos aňos se han publicado algunos trabajos que dan a conocer textos interesantes. Los problemas morales, constituyeron en el s. XVI una preocupación constante para los misioneros. Pronto, de toda la problematica resaltò un punto concreto: la validez del matrimonio entre los infieles del Japόn.

All’epoca del congresso era considerata molto importante la conversione degli infedeli ritenuta un’opera sovrannaturale, un’opera della grazia, dovere di tutti i buoni cristiani, ma in particolar modo dei contemplativi. Il quesito della prima parte del volume è proprio relativo alla importanza dei contemplativi nelle missioni. Nella seconda parte si fa riferimento all’opera e al pensiero di S. Francesco Saverio,patrono principale delle missioni, di cui, nell’anno 1952, ricorreva il IV centenario della morte.

Dieu dans la littérature africaine

L’analyse théologique des œuvres littéraires revêt un intérêt non négligeable pour la connaissance et l’évangélisation des cultures. Le présent essai s’inscrit dans cette ligne en analysant trois romans majeurs de la littérature africaine du 20e siècle: Les bouts de bois de Dieu d’Ousmane Sembène, L’aventure ambiguë de Cheikh Hamidou Kane et Le pauvre Christ de Bomba de Mongo Beti. Les trois auteurs jouissent d’une spéciale renommée dans le vaste panorama de la littérature africaine. Nous notons la présence de deux sénégalais et un camerounais, notre travail étant limité à ces pays. D’autre part ils représentent différents univers spirituels and culturels. Ousmane Sembène a été un auteur prolifique et aussi un directeur de cinéma. Il représente la littérature engagée et sociale. Cheikh Hamidou Kane provient de la tradition islamique du Nord Sénégal ; il a assumé de grandes responsabilités politiques et culturelles depuis le temps du président Senghor. Avec lui, nous côtoyons le drame de l’Afrique aux prises avec la culture occidentale. Mongo Beti est un camerounais inquiet qui a milité dans l’opposition et a connu l’exil. Éduqué dans les missions catholiques, il est devenu un opposant à la foi, attaché à la gauche française, mais avec une inspiration profondément africaine. À travers ces pages, nous nous proposons de poursuivre de façon très modeste le chef d’œuvre de Charles Moeller, véritable pionnier de l’analyse théologique des productions culturelles, et nous rapprocher ainsi de la première génération africaine qui a connu la foi chrétienne. Cela pourra rendre un service efficace au moment de la “nouvelle évangélisation” demandée par Africae Munus (nn. 159-171).

Ferdinand Guillén Preckler, père piariste né à Barcelone (Espagne), après ses études ecclésiastiques a Rome – Université Grégorienne – a travaillé dans la formation et a été professeur de théologie systématique, de l’histoire de l’Église et de spiritualité à Salamanca (Espagne), au Mexique D.F., à Dakar (Sénégal), et à Yaoundé (Cameroun). À présent il enseigne dans plusieurs écoles théologiques de Manille (Philippines).
