An interest in this problem at the early period of Western Christianity in India led the author to study the writings of Roberto de Nobili (1577-1656). De Nobili was the first European to understand the Hindu Society from its own scriptures and traditions. One of the central concepts that sums up the life of the Hindus is that of dharma. A study of the Nobili’s method of adoption of certain customs and synbols of the Hindus without a study of how far de Nobili understood some of the central concepts of Hinduism is incomplete. This work in Dharma, Hindu and Christian, according to Roberto De Nobili is the first study in this line. It centres around the concept of dharma, but it also evaluates the related socio-ehico-religious concepts of Hinduism. Such a study is broader in scope than that of the Hindu caste dharma. It tries to show that this first Christian encounter with Hinduism by de Nobili is quite profound, despite the limitations of the apologetic theology with which de Nobili worked in the presentation of Christianity.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;

This work presents to us his philosophical system in its entire outline. In order to work out that outline, he spent half of his life time. Indeed without exaggeration, “in its specific form, it presents us with Hegel’s final and the highest point of view, namely, the system of philosophy. The context in which Hegel discusses Indian thought in the Encyclopaedia, is another important factor which attracts our attention. Y sin conocer en concreto cόmo nacieron y se plantearon esos problemas mirales, el ambiente en que se desenvolvieron, las caracteristicas con que se presentaban, los documentos oficiales pierden su verdadera perspective y aun es dificil valorarlos exactamente. Se impone el estudio historico de las misiones, intentando reconstruir fielmente toda la problematica que se formò al primer contacto del Cristianesimo con las culturas paganas. Las fuentes contemporáneas inedita, como cartas, relaciones son numerosas. En estos últimos aňos se han publicado algunos trabajos que dan a conocer textos interesantes. Los problemas morales, constituyeron en el s. XVI una preocupación constante para los misioneros. Le présent essai s’inscrit dans cette ligne en analysant trois romans majeurs de la littérature africaine du 20e siècle: Les bouts de bois de Dieu d’Ousmane Sembène, L’aventure ambiguë de Cheikh Hamidou Kane et Le pauvre Christ de Bomba de Mongo Beti. Les trois auteurs jouissent d’une spéciale renommée dans le vaste panorama de la littérature africaine. Nous notons la présence de deux sénégalais et un camerounais, notre travail étant limité à ces pays. D’autre part ils représentent différents univers spirituels and culturels. Ousmane Sembène a été un auteur prolifique et aussi un directeur de cinéma. Il représente la littérature engagée et sociale. Cheikh Hamidou Kane provient de la tradition islamique du Nord Sénégal ; il a assumé de grandes responsabilités politiques et culturelles depuis le temps du président Senghor. Avec lui, nous côtoyons le drame de l’Afrique aux prises avec la culture occidentale. Mongo Beti est un camerounais inquiet qui a milité dans l’opposition et a connu l’exil. Éduqué dans les missions catholiques, il est devenu un opposant à la foi, attaché à la gauche française, mais avec une inspiration profondément africaine. À travers ces pages, nous nous proposons de poursuivre de façon très modeste le chef d’œuvre de Charles Moeller, véritable pionnier de l’analyse théologique des productions culturelles, et nous rapprocher ainsi de la première génération africaine qui a connu la foi chrétienne. Cela pourra rendre un service efficace au moment de la “nouvelle évangélisation” demandée par Africae Munus (nn. 159-171). &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
