Il volume è dedicato alla pubblicazione di due rotoli gemelli di papiro esposti nel Museo Egizio di Torino, scritti fittamente sulle due facce in grafia ieratica tracciata da uno scriba abile e forse da più mani. Oggi sappiamo che questi due rotoli, per quanto lunghi, non contengono la totalità dei testi riportati. Ne presentiamo l'edizione scientifica, condotta considerando i documenti nel loro insieme: i singoli papiri sono stati interamente elaborati, anche per le parti che si riferiscono a testi diversi da quelli magici dei rotoli principali, come altre composizioni magiche, contabilità, un panegirico, quasi tutti privi di riscontro.

This is the first complete edition of texts known as The Book of Thoth, The Book of Isis, and a thanatological treatise found on both sides of two great magical papyri in the Museo Egizio of Turin, supplemented with hitherto unknown documents kept in the same museum.

After acknowledging various helps for this edition (p. 7), the author presents a brief history of the investigation and a description of the papyri (pp. 9-19). The complicated and sometimes obscure hieratic script of the original made it necessary to present the texts in hieroglyphic transliteration (pp. 21-87) and a partiture-like synopsis of all available parallel texts (pp. 89-157). An Italian translation of the texts (pp. 159-173) is given together with an exhausive glossary (pp. 175-192). Included in this volume is a paleographical analysis by Giuseppina Lenzo (pp. 193-255) confirming the date of the manuscripts to the Twentieth Dynasty; several of them are even datable to the second half of this period.

This opus is dedicated to the memory of Adhémart Massart, S.J., who was originally entrusted to publish the main papyri, but was unable to continue working on them due to long illness. Shortly before his death in 1986, he handed over the material to A. Roccati who, incorporating other pertinent material, completed the present edition.

Alessandro Roccati è stato professore di egittologia nelle Università di Roma "La Sapienza", di Ginevra e di Torino. E' autore di una ventina di monografie e di oltre duecento articoli scientifici pubblicati nelle principali riviste nazionali ed internazionali. Segue e dirige numerosi scavi archeologici in Egitto e in Sudan.

„Während meiner beschäftigung mit den wirtschaftsurkunden der Ur-III Zeit wurde ich auf die Bedeutung der "Runden Tafeln" aufmerksam. Mein verehrter Lehrer Prof. Dr. A. Falkenstein gab mir damals den Rat, diese für die wirtshaftsgeschichte der Ur-III Zeit so wichtigen Texte zu bearbeiten. Diese Arbeit ist von Philosophischen Fakultät der Universität Heidelberg als Habilitationsschrift für das Fach Altorientalistik angenommen worden“.

Im jahre 1881 veröffentliche Th. G. Pinches zwei keilschrifttexte aus dem British Museum und aus der Bibliothèque Nationale zu Paris, die einen ganz neuen typ vertraten und die er wegen ihrer herkunft „kappadokisch“ nannte. Mit dem weiteren auftauchen derartiger texte wurden auch genauere angaben über den fundort bekannt. nach behauptung der antikenhändler, die die kappadokischen tontalfen zum kauf anboten, sollten sie von dem etwa 20 km nordöstlich Kayseri gelgenen Tell namens Karahüyük oder Kültepe stammen, weshalb man auch von „Kültepe-Texten“ spricht.

The purpose of the present study is to investigate the political history of Babylonia from the rise of the Second Dynasty of Isin (c. 1158 B.C.) to the death of Shalmaneser V (722 B.C.). The author’s discussion is limited almost entirely to political history, that is the inquiry into the internal and external activity of the body politic, as exemplified in the workings of the government and especially in the focus of political life in ancient Babylonia, the king.
